Mendelweg Car Park

Naturalis has built a parking garage on a plot of land on Mendelweg Noord at the Leiden Bio Science Park. In addition to parking for visitors to the museum, the garage is also used by employees and visitors of companies and institutions located in this part of the Leiden Bio Science Park. Furthermore, the parking garage has been set up as a “Park & Ride” facility for, for example, visits to the city centre.

Location

Encouraging public transport

The parking garage is an example of the smart combination of different parking needs. Naturalis encourages the use of public transport. The garage allows Naturalis to offer attractive parking facilities for visitors who arrive by car, directly next to the museum. Now that the parking garage has been completed, Naturalis will transform the site of the former parking lot into an “Oertuin” (primeval garden) with educational elements. This is expected to open at the end of 2026.

Park & Ride plus pilot

In addition, the parking garage will be equipped as a “Park & Ride plus pilot”. This pilot means that the garage will also be available for visitors to, for example, the Leiden city centre. Visitors can park their car in the garage and continue their journey by another mode of transport. After parking, they can, for instance, use a shared bicycle or transfer to public transport.
