Schilperoort Park
A park for everyone
Leiden University worked together with the Municipality of Leiden to develop the Schilperoort Park that was completed in early 2020. This new public space is located to the north-east of the Leiden Bio Science Park, near Leiden Central station. The Schilperoort Park is intended for people of all ages, and includes cycle and pedestrian routes.
Information
Where used to be a parking lot, a pond has been dug with grass around it. This makes it an attractive area for waterfowl. A diverse plantation attracts various insects and increases biodiversity. Replacing bricks with grass helps to better store rainwater in the ground.
The park atmosphere has been extended to the adjacent residential area. Here, former medical laboratories of the departments of anatomy and pathology have been transformed into residential buildings. Also new residential towers have been built here. On the ground floor of the Pathology Building is restaurant LAB071.
