SRON

Transparent building to boost collaboration and encounters
To the north of the Gorlaeus, the construction of the new headquarters for SRON (the Netherlands Institute for Space Research) is completed.

Information

SRON (Netherlands Institute for Space Research) facilitates breakthroughs in scientific research on space. The Institute conducts astrophysical research, earth science and planetary research, and develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments to support this research. As a national expertise institute, SRON advises the Dutch government and coordinates national research funding for international space missions. SRON promotes societal applications of space technology and is a member of NWO (the Dutch Research Council).

The relocation of SRON from Utrecht to the Zuid-Holland region opens many opportunities for research, technology, and instrument making. SRON was relocated to the Leiden University Campus in early 2021. Their sustainable new building includes offices, laboratories, cleanrooms and a central meeting space.
